You are trusting us with sensitive documents at a difficult moment. Here is exactly how that is handled.
Four commitments
What we promise, in plain words.
Encrypted, and separated per person
Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your records are isolated at the database level, so one account's data cannot be read through another's.
Never sold, never shared
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. Your case material is not used to train AI models.
You own your information
On your account page you can download everything in your account, or delete it. Deleting removes your case, documents, dates and drafts. Messages you sent through the contact form are kept separately, with the name, email and message you gave, and are not deleted with your account.
Not a law firm
We are a companion, not a lawyer. Nothing you share here creates an attorney-client relationship or its protections.
Who else handles your information
The services we use.
We use a few outside services to run Pro Se Companions. This is all of them, and what each one gets. We don't give any of them your information to sell or to advertise with, and the site has no tracking or analytics scripts.
- Anthropic
- The text of documents you upload, what you tell us about your case, and the answers you give for a draft. Its AI models explain your papers and write drafts.
- AssemblyAI
- Your voice recordings, if you record instead of typing. Turns what you say into text, which you check before it is saved.
- Cloudflare R2
- The files you upload. Stores them privately. Only your account can open them.
- Cloudflare Turnstile
- Your IP address and signals from your browser, on the sign-in and sign-up pages, before you have signed in. No case information. Checks that a person, not a script, is starting a guest session.
- Neon
- Everything in your account, in our database. Hosts the database, in the United States (AWS, Ohio).
- Vercel
- Each request your browser makes to the site. Runs the website and the app.
- Resend
- Your email address, and the emails we send you: sign-in links and, if you keep them on, date reminders. A reminder says only the date, never what it is for. Sends our emails.
- Microsoft Azure
- Not in use yet. When reading scans and photos is switched on, the pages of those files will go to it. Reads text from scans and photos.

A note on legal advice.
Pro Se Companions is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Our guides, summaries, and next-step suggestions are educational. They help you understand what is happening and prepare for it, but they do not replace an attorney. If your situation is urgent or complex, we will always tell you to get qualified legal help.
Browsing without an account.
You can use the platform as a guest, without signing up. A guest session lives in the browser you started it in, so clearing that browser or switching devices loses your way back to it. Documents you upload as a guest are deleted after a short time. If you want your case to be there when you come back, start a trial and everything comes with you.
