Every feature, in plain language.

Pro Se Companions is a set of tools for people going to court without a lawyer. Here is what each one actually does, with no jargon and no legal advice.

Tell your story your own way. Type it, or talk and let the transcription turn what you said into text you check before it is saved. Every update is kept with its date. You do not have to know the legal words. Describe what happened the way you would to a friend on the phone, pauses and backtracks and all. What you said is kept as part of your story, and you can download everything in your account at any time.

Understand what you have been served. Upload a summons, a notice of hearing, a motion, or a bewildering email from the other side, and you get a two-column reading. The left column keeps the exact legal language. The right column explains, in ordinary English, what it means, what deadline it sets, and what usually happens next. It does not tell you what to do. It tells you what is happening.

Keep every date in one place. Deadlines are pulled out of the paperwork as it arrives. When a document does not state a deadline, the statutory fallback for your court is used instead, and you are told which one applied and why. Dates that are uncertain are flagged for you to confirm rather than quietly assumed.

Prepare a document when you need one. Filings are built from what you have actually told us and uploaded, in the format your court expects. Every legal citation is checked against a real legal database before it appears; anything that cannot be confirmed is left out rather than invented. Missing facts are flagged for you, never filled in.

File it yourself, with instructions. We do not file anything on your behalf and we do not transmit anything to a court. When your document is ready you get a step-by-step guide for filing it with your own court, including what to bring and what to expect at the counter.
